Hello, I have a Geo. Taylor Mk2 milling machine. There is a lot, two complete turns of the handle, of backlash in the left right table movement, X?. Front to back isn't too bad, Y?, nor is the up and down, Z?.
I have fitted a DRO to X and Y.
At some time I wish to remake the nut and screw. They are Acme threads, not measured yet, but I think they are half inch, 10 tpi
With a piece of bronze, would an Acme tap be good enough? Similarly the screw, would an Acme die suffice? Or should I cut the screw thread on my lathe?
If I have to cut it on the lathe, I have a Boxford STS metric lathe. How would I set it up for Imperial?
Thanks in advance for any help, ideas or suggestions (don't do it!)
