Genset 10-400

I am watching the above machine as I am after a machine that I can fit a wire feeder to. The guy selling it says that a wire feeder can be fitted but only certain ones. Does anyone have any knowledge of these sets and if so which wire feeder do I need to be looking for?

Hi F.J., did you ever get this sorted out? I'm looking to make up a diesel mig from a genset type setup and also thought about a wire feeder unit utilising the welding output. I guess you need a 12 or 24v tapping to run the wire feed motor but why would only some gensets work? Variable voltage?

Hi.

I ended up buying a Lincoln Ranger 305d, with an ln 25 wire feeder. It plugs into the +/- terminals and completes the circuit with and additional earth from the feeder that clamps to the earth lead itself. If i can find a picture ill post it up. I started off with a wire feeder off a standard mig set that needed a separate lead to power it from the ranger. It was a cracking set up but the ln25 is more robust. I have also bought a genset mp225 stick welder and have a Technical Arc wire feeder working off it for the smaller jobs.

Does the smaller kit arc up and run happily like a good mains mig welder, or is it a bit quirky.

I only used it for the first time last week and i must admit it was a bit stuttery but that could just be me needing to get the settings bang on. I'll post pics of both set ups this afternoon
