I used my Clarke 130 on a 5.5 Kva genny loads of times, both work fine, I have tried it on its highest power but I stuggle to see any difference between 30 and 130 amps just doesn't give you the power you have set it to.
A good genny will be ok but its better if it has an AVR to control its output voltage under load. Remember that you will be going from almost no load to nearly full load when you pull the trigger. Takes a big strong engine to do that & hold the htz & electronic control to hold the volts.
I think most of the welding done at the farm will be thin stuff so I might get away with it.
AVR is an Automatic voltage regulator (wikipedia is a wonderful thing), it may have one I've yet to see the generator so fingers crossed. Its run from a diesel engine so should be a little better than the really cheap ones.
so neither the genny or welder are at any great risk then?
