Generators

Hi,
I've just joined the forum and I must say it seems like there's a real friendly bunch on here from what I've read already.
I'm new to welding. I've been given a draper 100A gasless mig welder and I've been using at home to practice with.
I have a lock up on a farm but it has no power supply so I was wondering if I could use a generator and if so what one would be best.

First off, read the instructions. It may be advised not to run it from a generator. If it is deemed OK, I would think most modern stator wound generators would likely need to be at least twice the rated input current for the welder.

Someone with experience of this may well soon be along to advise more accurately.

Welcome to the forum Rojam.

As above, if its a transformer based welder you'll probably be ok, if it's an inverter, check it's genny friendly.

On the radio today, an advert for insurance with a company who will provide backup generators if there is a power outage!
Could be a business model.
