Generator

Hi, A friend has microlight aircraft, which he keeps in a small hangar. The hangar is not connected to the mains and needs some work doing on the building. So he is considering buying a small generator to power items such as Kettle, small power tools, e.g. electric drill, angle grinder.

Any suggestions for a small generator that would be suitable. Thanks

A standard kettle is normally 3 kw, you might be better off with a gas camping hob for brews. Small tools will run off a 2 stroke Chinese nasty, but that won't run anything electronic due to the wild sine wave output.

Jetboil for brews bud will brew a tea in about 2 mins flat! Generator for kit what sort of load are yyou going to have on it a lot of the small cheap ones are only 650w and your lucky if you get that from them!

the 6.5 hp honda ripp offs are normaly ok for that sort of work i've had a couple and a couple of proper ones.

if your youseing it for work and it's geting a lot of use the proper ones are the only way to go, but for diy the ripp offs are ok

my 6.5 hp cheepie isnt a patch on the honda but it's good enough. it claims 3kw peack it's not more like 2.6. if you suddenly suprise it with a bg load it'll stall out the honda one won't, the only thing you really have to watch i found is the fuel.

the tanks rust inside unlike the more expensive units and the float valves in the honda clones arnt as good as the proper hondas, leve the fuel tap on for a week and the copy may have a sump full of petrol the honda won't but you get what you pay for

my cheepie hs been kicking around here for some years now. had seeral new pullcords, new fuel pipe and fuel tap ( he original was crap ) new breather hose ( mouse ) 1 spark plug and some oil changes. still goes 1st or 2nd pull every time i drag it out and it's done a few hundred hours by now. will run a kettel just, laptop, pc , tool chargers, and all handhld power tools just fine

the sub 1kw 2stroke suitcases are utter crap, they are ok for motors just but they struggel with most tools if your working them. tey are twerps to start at the best of times and don't last over long i tryed one thinking it'd be more convient it didn't survive a month before it poped the cheep 4 stroke suitcase gennys arn't much better.

If you can find one for the right price you cannot get better than a Lister.
