Generator problems

Bought a new Hyundai 2.8kW generator last year for the stables. Has run fine (93 hours) 'til now, tried it today and voltage drops from normal 225V to 65V on or off load. Sometimes it will recover back to 225V after 30 secs otherwise I have to stop & restart, but same thing happens again after a couple of minutes.
It's still under warranty so I've contacted supplier, but wondered if anyone had any suggestions. Whether it helps same volt drop occurs on 110V setting too.

does the engine sound like its struggling? I'm assuming its avr? Could be an issue there. If its under warranty i wouldn't worry too much

I'd be after the AVR given it's delivering the right voltage some of the time, but as it's on warranty best to get the vendor to sort it first.

I was hoping it was something I could easily fix on site as at 40kg+ getting it to repairer is going to be fun!.

Well, if you can persuade the vendor to get an AVR in stock, it's only a wee thing and even on the crappy chinese generators the AVR connects via a multi-way block connector; how happy are you playing with electric string?

if t has carbon brushes they could be either worn or stuck, or it could simply be a bad connection somewhere, if it occasionally runs correctly then nothing can have blown

Update - spoke to the service dept who agreed it sounds like the AVR or possibly the brushes, new AVR and brushes arrived in the post today. They also gave me a few other checks, values etc. to go through.

going to say some genorators have a capacitor ( same style as a motor run capacitor ) the symptoms sound exactly like one of them failing, had it happen on a few gennys usally a cheep easy fix
