I need advice, want to fit an hour meter to this, the meter came with a pos & neg wires ,the generator is 3 years old ,so I assume its electronic ignitions where would I connect them please?
If the leads are marked + & - it sounds like it may need a DC supply. Are there any voltage markings on it? Make & Model of meter and generator might help too.
RS do a Henstingler hour meter which can run off voltages from 110 to 230. I fit them to my HGI 200 amp Honda powered welder/gennys to keep track of servicing hours. It's mechanical and quite compact, about 25mm high and 50mm wide, 60mm long though and the spade connectors go out the back so you need a bit of depth wherever you mount it.
You need a DC supply between 12 and 36 volts, observe polarity.
If there is no DC output on the genny you will need a DC supply, ie transformer > rectifier > smoothing.
The easiest way would be to scrounge a phone PSU or suchlike 110v input with reference to Danny's post with a suitable DC output and wire it permanently to the genny.
