Does anybody have experience of either (or even better both!) of the above? I’m after a set of A/F spanners for occasional use and can get hold of a set of either type for a very reasonable price. I won’t use them all that often but when I do it will be automotive use, more buses and trucks than cars. I really like the look of the 1Bs but they look a little chunky (not so much of a problem on large vehicles). I’d be interested to hear from anybody who’s actually used them (or the No.7s) though. Are you desperate for a brand new set.
With everything switching to metric, lots of autojumbles & car boot sales with AF spanners. My project is mainly BSF & picked up a lot of my spanners/sockets, often good makes for not a lot.

I have a selection of 1b, the sizes I have are definately not chunky, the rings are really slender walled spanners but the open end is thicker reassuringly. Nice length spanner too, slightly longer than a "standard" spanner. Depending on what you call standard I suppose!

Gedore 1b are excellent, always have been too. Proper work spanner, none of the shiny Snap-On bling, just a great spanner that does its job without being flashy.

The 1bs are workhorses as said, the no7s are slightly slimmer. A set of gedore 1b and a set of stahlwille 14s is what I’d have!

Another vote , for 1B's here. I am an Agricultural Engineer , they are first spanner , I take out, of the box. It is the offset, of the ring end, I like. Have got a 32mm, no.7, but prefer the no.1s.

@RonA that's a good shout but I rarely have time to go to autojumbles etc. and even if I did it's then a case of trying to assemble a full set in good condition (I can't live with missing chrome, initials carved in etc.!).
@Rokweld my main concern was the ring ends being too thick so that's great to know. The open ends do look a little deeper than standard but that's not a problem (plus the design is quite artistic I think!).

That’s the problem I like them all too! I’ve got multiple sets in metric….
I’ve ordered the Elora 205s, they were slightly more expensive but the set contains more sizes so really it was better value. I’m looking forward to comparing them with my trusty Unior No.120s and Facom 440s.

I have a couple of , Unior 120s, I got at a car boot sale, 36mm and 41mm. They are seriously heavy duty spanners. Always keep an eye out for more, but no luck yet.
Although not quite car boot sale value, if you look for them on eBay there are usually sellers offering them new at very reasonable prices.
To be honest, the main reason I didn’t simply go for an A/F set of 120s is because they’ll end up in a mobile tool kit with my metric ones at some point and they’d be harder to find when mixed up…. I’m not sure if that’s just me applying man logic to justify trying new tools though….
