I was wondering if anyone has got a good technique for the spacing in gates

i don't want to waste time measuring and failing lol

i really don't want to drill so i would like to make a jig

it just that maths isn't a strong point for me and im used to working from measurements

i have seen someone use a computer program but i don't remember what it was called

My driveway is 7foot

I`m assuming this is for putting rails in the gates. It`s not the most technical way, but it`s how i most often do it. Get a piece of 1x2 wood or similar, drill holes the same size as the tubing your using the same distance apart as you want the centres of the rails. Then cut through the wood so youve got a semi circle at each end of the wood that the rails can sit in while you weld.

if your clever, use a bit of wood the same width as the box your welding too, then if you`ve drilled the holes centrally and you working on a flat surface the rails should come out central too the box section.

That sounds like a long way of doin it Jay!


Just cut 2 bits of box just under 100mm, work from the middle, Either mark the centre of the spacer, and tack one bar either side, or tack one bar central, then use the two spacers to put the next bar in each time.
For getting central to the box/flat, just use another bit of bar underneath.
Eg for 10mm bars, onto 30 flat, just rest the bars in the frame sat on an offcut of 10mm bar.

A computer programme is a bit overkill for knocking up a gate i reckon!
