Hi All

Please can someone help me i have phoned a couple of suppliers now and three of them cannot get HRS (would it be a bodge to use 40 x 5 for a hand rail) and then its the question black or bright?

I was going to go black as i can get it in longer lengths but then one guy said that it may be bent and bowed due to the way it is stored?

Which one dose everyone else use?

40 x 5 what? If it is flat there is a good chance it could be bent.I don't know where in Kent you are, but have you tried Parker Steel. What are you making exactly? I am sure one of us on here can give you some good advice.

Thats a poor show. You don't want bright bar, the edges will be quite sharp, and more expensive.
40*5 is a bit on the thin side, 40*8 or 40*10 would be a better choice. It might have a bow, it will bend under its own weight, if its got a kink though don't accept it.

Thats what i like about this place you are never made to feel like you are aking a silly question (even when you think you are)

I am making a hand rail down a set of steps at my nans house as the wooden rails she has at the moment have started to rot at the bottom. It is abit like the picture below the set-up, and i was going to make the hand rail with just 12mm round bar to keep it simple for my first go. It comes out from the building approx 1mtr then 90deg left 1mtr and then down one step. do you stop the lower 40 x 10 bar in line with the edge of the first step?

Ok so i think i will go for the 40x10 flat bar. And i was looking at 12mm round bar for the up rights with 30x30 box for the supporting legs dose this seam ok? And all in Black right not bright?

Sounds like you got it right to me, should look nice when done. I would load piccies up of a couple I have made but don't know how.

Poor show.... means its bad, that they dont have the HRSE in stock.
40x10 will give more for her hands to hold onto, although not the comfiest thing to hold onto.

Normally i would put the lower post inline with the front of the bottom step, lower flat between posts, then the top rail ectending past with a bit of a return on it.
