Gatepost reinforcing question

I just had a look at my order history. My post is 100x100x5mm and so far they are holding up just fine.

brad what is the deflection of the i beam girder or h frame steel girder

considering theyve been used for years as gate posts on many things even lasted the test of time just by concreted in and set in place without all of the framing underneath

i know there great in horizontal strength and vertical strength

I’m on the outskirts of Maldon, not far off the A12.
I have a total of 7.5m, unfortunately I cut it into two pieces. 1 piece is 2.3m and the other 5.2m.

lets say simple sizes

4x6

and

4x8

ive seen often where 6x 10s or 6x12s are used but there on long gate openers

though many dont like how i beams look

i agree with most of the advice above & would like to add there is no substitute for depth in the ground.
