I've got a pair of gates with 50 x 50mm posts. The one side has been knocked over and I wondered about replacing it with something more substantial say 100 x 100mm. Now I'm not fussed on having one side 50mm and one 100mm so I wondered if I could slide a 100mm box section over the post still standing (its gonna wreck the drive if I take it up) and weld them together just to have both posts the same?
I thought about a 150mm square plate with a 50mm square cut out in the middle slide it over the post to the ground weld it to the old post, slide the new 100mm over the top and weld to the plate at ground level, repeating something similar at the top.
bit of a bodge but has anybody ever done anything like this before? if I've explained it right.
