The customer also does not Want it to have a gate closure device like a spring or anything!. But if was aloud to use one when one is fitted to a gate do u no if there is much resistance when you open the gate???

you wont notice it that much to be honest, obviously depending on the size you go for

Was just thinking could use one and then have a wire rope pull cord to open it but don't want it slamming against wall when u pull it open???

two rubber door stops one at the top one at the bottom, on your other post about the electro magnet i think that a great bit of kit that you should seriously think about fitting

It's really hard coz they don't want any electronics I'm thinking coz if It brakes down on say a Sunday afternoon it will cause hassle so think its all got be simple and manual which sounds easy but I keep thinking and always seems some porblems with the ideas!

Is it SO critical that if it breaks down the guy in the booth can't just stand next to the gate and monitor, flow??? I mean really, how often do these things go wrong...?

electric locks never go wrong and are cheap to fit . if the power fails they unlock

I work at a secure site ,we use electric locks and bitton door closers,but also have a turnstile which would be another option

A simple way would be to weld a crank at 45 deg to the vertical frame at the hinge end. Say, 25cm long. The operating rod is pivoted (bolt) at the end and enters the booth through a small vertically slotted hole. On the underside of the rod are triangular teeth. Position these so that when the gate is closed, or in any other position where it needs holding (open?) they catch on the bottom of the slotted hole. To operate, raise the rod until the tooth is free and push/pull the rod to move the gate.

The 45 deg angle of the crank is assuming that the rod will be parallel to the closed gate. Change to suit.

All the doors in a cell block in Alcatraz were rod and lever operated.

I have never been in goal,(yet) I Watched a really good programme about alcatraz, The cell doors were operated from the end of a long cell block,I believe by setting several big levers (a bit like a railway signal box) the guard could open any single cell or open them all at once.

Unlike an establishment my wife works in where all doors still have to locked / unlocked singularly by hand.
