gate jigs

I'm looking at start building some garden gates but currently do not have a steel work bench. I have a large area to work in but it isn't flat. i thought of using a trestle set up in some way. To be honest im not really sure how id go about it so was wondering if any one has done gates from this type of jog before and if you have any pictures of it?

I used to work on the floor on anything over a metre long. I fact I still do on larger stuff.

I needed to make five frames about 2.5x1.8m in my garage with lumpy floor.
Vague memories here. No chop saw, just a hand held angle grinder. I made a rectangle by shimming the box up off the floor to get it all level and tacking it together and measuring everything; measuring the diagonals is a huge help, if it is the same across both diagonals it is square.. I even managed to do it using just one (cheap nasty) right angle corner clamp and they came out square. I thought it was a miracle on the first one, but by No five I accepted that i was doing something right. I figured on butt joining the ends rather trying to be clever and cut mitres by eye.
I reckon using trestles would be harder than doing it o the floor, as the floor is a fairly fixed kind of thing.

If you need a jig or even a jog making this would be a way of doing it, take your time, check everything over and over again, use big tacks so it wont move. make the jig in box section, and everything should align with that.

Using trestles I can see you recoursing to repetitive use of profanity. This usually means it is not going to plan.

gate jig

I use a bench / table as a jig its just an old w/ bench with an 8' x 4' sheet of 6mm plate tacked on top squared up with a piece of 50mm flat welded down two sides to clamp back to .also use it for drawing jobs out on. I just recently put some wheels on it so i can move it about but at the moment its a bit like a pi**ed up shopping trolley.
