hi all, i posted a while ago and one very fine gentleman local to me offered help but i cant find the post
Anyhoo this is the story, im doing a resto on a mk1 fiesta and its getting harder to carry on until i do the welding, so ive started practicing on pieces of my chopped up bonnet as it will be identical to welding my panels in.
Now im either pathetically awful at welding or something isnt right, im using a clarke pro 90 mig welder with flux cored .8mm wire with a .8mm tip, and the guy at the place i baught the wire told me to reverse the polarity of the welder, which i dont know how to do, or even if it can be done on my welder, or if it would go bang and take my hands off...
i thaught id give it a bash anyway as im determined to learn to weld
no big explosions
, all seemed well, so i carried on, now... at first i think it was just my incompetence that was making me fail, and fail i did... miserably.
But after playing for a while i started to get penetration and less pigeon ****, but it keeps burning holes in my metal, i have it all on the minimum settings, and it ****** through it like a hot knife through butter and i cnt see what im doing wrong other than this polarity business....
Just after some advice on what you guys think i need to do?
can i sort the polarity? and is it the polarity thats makin it burn holes? if not do i just need to use gas? if so what settings do i need it on to weld .8mm steel with a clarke pr0 90 mig welder? also what is the best wire and tips to use?
basically to sum up my post... HHEEEELLLPP
Thanks in advance,
Touche.
