Hello,
Newbie here, excellent looking forum.
I've got a Clarke gas/no gas MIG. From memory, I think it's the 110.
I've been practising on 0.8mm sheet, both lap and butt welding, using the gasless function. I was starting to get results, using a "pulse" technique (striking the arc, stopping and moving the torch fractionally, and re-striking) to avoid burn through. It meant a slightly ridged bead, but the look of it isn't terribly important, I'm more concerned with a sound weld.
All was going well, until I changed the spool. Ever since then, it's gone wrong. The material used, conditions, machine settings and torch technique haven't changed, but it refuses to penetrate.
It makes me suspect there's a problem with the new spool of wire. Has anyone else experienced dodgy batches of wire, or am I overlooking something obvious?
Apologies for the essay, and many thanks!
