Gasket for Gear Box Cover on Progress 2G Drill Press

I was going purchase a new gasket from Gate Machinery who still have some old stock for the above drill, however a £20.00 per gasket thought I would try other gasket sealants.

I have tried Granville clear gasket sealant from Halfords but this doesn't seem to have worked.
Could anyone suggest any good alternatives. Thanks.

I assume it's for the side plate. I made my own from some general purpose gasket material from Ebay.

as has been said,Gasket card from ebay.

Make sure you wipe the mating surfaces down with petrol or a quick wipe with an fine abrasive sandpaper and clean.

You can go buy gasket paper for something like that if you want, but there really is no need. A bit of kellogs cereal packet (as in RTB'S post) card or similar will do the job fine and work just as well for an application like that. Free and no waiting. Set to with a baby ball peen and the jobs a good un.

some people think its a special card used and will be thinking whats a baby ball pien its ball pien hammer . place card over the casing and tap round the edge with the ball of the hammer and it will cut it away . tap over the bolt holes and it will punch the hole. job donehttp://www.screwfix.com/c/tools/ball-pein-hammers/cat831072

I generally do the holes part way through first with a ball-pein hammer, this holds the card in place whilst doing the rest. I then use the flat end of the hammer to go round the inside of the component, then the outside and finally finish off the holes. I use a punch for small holes, a cross-pein hammer is useful in tight corners.

Different size ball bearings are ideal for cutting the holes,just need a gentle tap. I usually cut two holes first as far away from each other as possible. then either drop a couple of bolts through the holes or anything that is a better fit if the bolts are quite a bit smaller than the holes. As mentioned, clean both mating faces, Lots of materials are fine for non critical joints, If using corn flake/shoe box thin card give it a smear with grease on both sides before fitting.

Thanks guys I will give that go. Hadn't thought about making one so I am guessing this would be better then using gasket sealant out of
the tube.

A thin smear of grease on the gasket will be sufficient to help it seal.
