Gas Sound from Torch

Hi

I am relatively new to mig welding and have a small query about my torch. I have a Clarke 160EN running from a 9litre blottle of argon/CO2.

The thing is when I turn on my gas regulator, a quiet sound of what I presume is gas, comes from the torch. When I pull the trigger the sound increases, but when I let go, it is still there but a lot quieter. I am just wondering if this is normal or have I got a gas problem
I followed some advice on here and took torch apart and lubricated trigger etc, but its still the same.

It's not normal, you have a leak somewhere.
Check the torch gas valve, make sure the gas line itself isn't damaged and that it's properly connected to the gas valve.
Have you been dragging the machine round by the torch?

the lower end of the market use a valve in the trigger mechanism. this is usually a hole in a brass block, where the trigger is a small rod in the hole that seals an o ring with the return spring to stop the gas escaping. when you press the trigger the "valve" opens and also gretes the electrical contact to start the arc and wire feed.
the problem is that the back side of the hole which provides the support for the spring is plastic and hasto be stuck onto the block. The glue, plastic or spring have weakened and there will not be enough force to close the gas seal. Or the o ring is bad.

I think you may be able to get the block and swan neck as a replacement or itsa new torch.
My original torch was like this and i did a euro torch conversion.

Replaced Gas Valve & Swan Neck. Working Perfect. It seems to be the trigger mechanism that had failed in the Gas Valve. Realyy appreciate the help.

Ordered from Weldequip on Friday and I had it Tuesday Morning. I am based in the west of Ireland. Very impressive service indeed!
