gas regulator

Hi all again
can someone tell me what the job for the regulator is as my autoplus 150 has a large one on the bottle and but when i am trying things out as long as it's on it doesn't seem to make any diferance weather it's on full or half it kinda looks like a window wiper moter of a car lol thanks....

refillable one when i bought it the guy said he gets them from his local pub and just gives the bottle ( i dont wanna really go and ask for another they mite think i am taking the ****) i dont think its gunna need changing for a while...

Sounds like the Regulator is F*****! Has it got two gauges or just the one?

none it just has like a stop tap on it open and close

Turn the bottle off and run the welder, does the needle in the regulator go down? If it does then the thing is working, if not it is broken. The job it does is to stop you wasting gas, which costs your pocket.

Post a pic. Sounds like you dont have a reg just the stop tap on the bottle.

ta for that but i have no type of guage on it at all just a turn knob open and close that seems to work but doesant make any differance....

He has no guage so no needle. The reg reduces the presure from 200 plus bar to a safer working presure (not sure what that is). The flow meter controls the useage.

You MUST step the bottle pressure down with a Regulator. If you don't, apart from it being dangerous, you will end up blowing components in your welder.

Would think the first thing to go would be the pipe from the bottle to the welder. Cant see that taking 200 bar (3000psi)

it does seem to be stepped down on the torch it just don't make any differance when up or down...

Can't see how he's got his pipe connected to the cylinder without a Regulator? Bloody ell, it's no wonder there is Health & Safety!

The gas in that cylinder can be anything up to 3500psi - that's 3 tonnes per square inch pressure! - it HAS to be stepped down, ie.regulated before it goes into the welder. Is there anything fitted on the bottle on/off tap??

yes it has a large unit screwed onto the bottle that looks like a starter motor without the solanoide and a tap directly above the bottle the pipe puls on and off no clips holding the pipe on it doesant fall of when i put the gas on when i bought it the guy said it aint a cheap one (but he was trying to sell it ) i will take a pic tomoz and post it..

Sounds like a brewery regulator to me which will have a fixed output pressure that's no good for welding; post us a pic & I will confirm.
