Gas regulations

Just read about someone on here having an extension done and asking about certs for gas appliances…,

Most work involves using a gas safe reg’d person….

But I’m allowed to change the gas bottle on my caravan….or on my gas heater In my garage…. talking Propane here, not the snap on type connection used on Butane bottles…

So what rules are being broken therein? if any….

One for all of you certified people…….

the parts are interchangeable so dont need regs the only time that they do is when you change fittings piping or heaters and fires with caravans

if you change the fitting on the gas bottle connection then you should have it tested but it dosnt happen

whilst both can blow up a house rather well both are not under the same regulations as piped in gas supply can cause the most damage

When I had my bulk lpg tank fitted by Flogas they only ran the pipe to the nearest wall, I had to sort the connection to the house myself. I had a gas fitter connect it up and after it was done I asked him for the certification, and he said I didn't need it, that I could have actually done it myself if I wanted, there are no regulations for basic piping and suchforth. That sounded wrong, so I got the cert off him anyway.

Strange that a gas hob with a bayonet hose fitting cannot be swapped out by joe public then? Unless the hose fitting isn’t classed as basic piping….

When "certified" does the inspector apply some form of tamper seal ?

Fixed installation and new appliances require certification, as do any alterations or replacement

Gas bottle connections are designed for end user use
