Hey,
I am really intrigued as to what everyone is paying for there argon (and other gases) in different parts of the world. We have a very small industrial gas market in NZ and rather limited options for owner cylinders, to the point that its often cheaper to rent. Also BOC in NZ tends to have Argon at about the same price or slightly cheaper than CO2 for some reason. We have some local/regional smaller gas supplies that will fill owner cylinders but across the country we only have two non rental supplies (and they only fill there swap bottles), EZISWAP and CoreGAS, Air Liquid has some form of rental/owner bottle but not country wide. For rental we have BOC, Air Liquid and CoreGAS nation wide.
The swapper cylinders are ok if you are using small amounts of gas but are REALLY expensive if you use more than one bottle a year. The EZISWAP bottles need to be 'bought' for the first one and then can be resold, the CoreGAS Trade N Go you pay a refundable deposit. The eziswap start at about 169 Euro ($290 NZD) for a B (1m3) and right up to 475 euro ($865 NZD) for a G (10m3) . Coregas only offer D and F (2m3 and 5m3) for there trade N go bottles with a refundable 130/190 euro ($250/$340 NZD) deposit. BOC also have there 'rental free' rental system that I assume is the same as in Europe, you get one fill a year and no rental (I think its just rental with a different name) for 80 euro ($150 NZD) for D cylinders (oxy is cheaper and CO2/nitrogen more expensive, go figure XD). Side note, at the moment in NZ the largest non rental cylinder of acetylene you can get from anyone (even if they might say they have other sizes) is a D (1m3) which is really really limiting if you want to use it for heating, hence why I have now ended up with rental bottles.
For rental cylinders, when I was casual, I was paying BOC $1.10 NZD PER DAY -_-. I was going to be going with CoreGAS, but they won't sell to anyone without a NZ registered business which I didn't have at the time. They were going to be charging me $0.42 NZD per day cylinder rental, but I am now with BOC and they have under cut that by a reasonable amount, so I'm actually rather happy with BOC unlike most of the people on the internet. Cylinder rental for both BOC and CoreGAS is the same no matter what size cylinder you get. Just FYI I have 5 different G gas cylinders with BOC and swap them 2 - 6 times a year (Oxy, Acetylene, Argon, Argosheild uni and Helium). I am actually really happy with my BOC pricing for both gas and rental, I didn't have to make any commitments to buy a minimum amount and they were actually quite helpful and easy to work with.
For the Swapper/owner bottles I'll list the gas prices below
Argon
EZI B- 60 euro ($109 NZD), D 100 euro ($187 NZD), F 180 euro ($329 NZD), G 250 euro ($454 NZD)
CoreGAS TnG D 80 euro ($149 NZD), E/F 150 euro ($270 NZD)
BOC Gas plan D 80 Euro ($149 NZD)- Also included an additional free fill first year (same with all BOC gas plans)
ALbee (Air Liquid) small/D 2.3m3 76 euro ($139 NZD)
CO2
EZI B- 45 euro ($82 NZD), D 67 euro ($123 NZD), F 100 euro ($184 NZD), G 150 euro ($269 NZD)
CoreGAS TnG D 56 euro ($103 NZD), E/F 78 euro ($142 NZD)
BOC Gas plan D 100 Euro ($180 NZD)
Oxygen
EZI B- 45 euro ($82 NZD), D 67 euro ($123 NZD), F 100 euro ($184 NZD), G 150 euro ($269 NZD)
CoreGAS TnG D 56 euro ($99 NZD), E/F 72 euro ($132 NZD)
BOC Gas plan D 56 Euro ($99 NZD)
Acetylene
EZI B- 60 euro ($109 NZD), D 100 euro ($179 NZD), E/F (3m3) 170 euro ($306 NZD)
CoreGAS TnG D 80 euro ($149 NZD),
BOC Gas plan D 80 Euro ($149 NZD)-
ALbee (Air Liquid) small/C 0.8m3 65 euro ($119 NZD)
For rental bottles I'll give what my casual BOC rate was and ball park what I am paying now with a supply agreement with them. I'll just give the G bottle pricing for these but if anyone is interested I can look up what I was paying for other sizes.
Argon G/10m3
Casual euro 150 ($270NZD)
Supply agreement euro 75 ($130NZD)
CO2 G/33kg
Casual euro 100 ($170NZD)
Supply agreement euro 75 ($130 NZD)
Oxygen G/10m3
Casual euro 70 ($130 NZD)
Supply agreement euro 75 ($130 NZD)
Acetylene G/7m3
Casual euro 210 ($380 NZD)
Supply agreement euro $75 ($140 NZD)
Helium (99.99% technical grade) G/8.3m3
Casual 930 euro ($1700 NZD)
Supply agreement 330 euro ($600 NZD)
I know the NZ market is a bit weird being that we are located in the literal ass end of the world, and I know BOC own and operate there own ASUs here but I still find it quite entertaining that I am paying less for Argon than either nitrogen or oxygen XD. Any reason I couldn't swap out the nitrogen in my car tires for argon ;P Also not sure about ozzy and europe but I know in the states the most common MIG mix is 75/25, we don't seem to have it stocked here by any of the gas companies, closest I see is BOC FCW mix at 77/23 that needs to be ordered in and Coregas has a 75/25 mix but only in E and G cylinders, also not available in trade n go/non rental bottles. We do seem to have much higher argon mixes and a lot more Ar/CO2/O2 trimixes that I find perform slightly better than Ar/CO2 and are the same price (if not slightly cheaper) compared with North America.
Anyway, if you have time please post what you are paying for your welding gases around the world so we can all figure out were to move for the best deals in gas ;p
Cheers
