Gas-Less MIG

Hi

Can anybody give me some info on gas-less MIG welding, basically I want to be able to use my MIG outside. Is this possible. Also, I dont weld a lot recently but still have to pay the bottle rent each month which is a bit of a waste. I have a MUREX 260 TradesMIG if that any use.

it would work just fine but with gas-less it has slag and is more expensive and also only welds on steel

can use gasless on stainless as well.... course it'll not do the anti rust ability of stainless any good. but it will do fine for tube work. fx. a cracked exhaust pipe.

John, I don't think you can use your mig with gasless mig wire because of the polarity, these gasless wires run negative polarity and standard mig wire is positive. You will have to check with Murex(01992 710000 ask for technical on machines) to see if yours can be swapped over.
As for gas rental, there are a number of distributors who offer rent free gas cylinders, check out 'Shielding Gas' on the forum.
