Gas flow rate

Can anyone tell what rate of gas flow I need on my mig. Unit is a Clarke 100e with 0.8 mm wire and pub bottle of co2.

The regulator only has a gauge for bottle pressure and nothing for the outlet

I have a rotameter (pea shooter flow meter) that goes from 1 - 15 litres per minute. I can easily configure this into the gas delivery pipe work

Probably a case of testing what works for you, but most people say 8 litres per min miniumum in an enclosed space. For outside in breezy conditions up the flow to get get coverage without the shielding gas being blown away.

Yep, 8 does fine most of the time. Up it to 10 if outdoors, don't go mad with the flow rate though. If it's breezy whatever you have will get blown away!

Bear in mind that as you approach 20 L/min there could be issues with turbulence in the 'laminar flow' that you want. Instead of the gas forming a shield over the weld puddle it will start to drag atmospheric air into it and contaminate the weld. In such conditions you can arrange a wind shield from simple materials - an old bed sheet, cardboard, etc or even revert to fluxed/gasless wire.
