Gas fittings

I recently move to Ireland from the States and brought my home shop kit with me. I've got a Victor Oxy/Acetylene kit and a Miller TIG welder. However, the movers wouldn't ship my bulk-storage bottles, so the oxy, acetylene and argon stayed behind.

Do bottles supplied in Ireland have the same fittings? If not, are there converters available that go between? (I assumed it was all different, but I just saw the same Victor kit I have on ebay.co.uk....)

I also can't seem to find anyone in Ireland who will sell the bottles. I'm just a hobbyist and go through a set of bottles about once every 10 years -- so it would be much more economical to purchase than to rent. But I can't seem to find anything but rentals here.

Hi Jeff, Welcome to the land of strange weather and non ownership of gas cylinders!!

Your kit from the USA won't match the 5/8 bsp threads (or AP coupler) used here but you should be able to purchase new inlet stems & nuts to fit your regulators.

Regulations for high pressure cylinders are different here hence "proper ownership" is rare and rental is often an expensive option for small users. We have outlets in England providing a good service for hobbyist but nothing so far in Ireland.

Any idea where I might find replacement stems & nuts? Are they regulator-manufacturer-specific, or are they pretty standardized?
