Does any one know if this gas cooker fitting is the "self seal" type when pipe is disconnected, as in if the knurled collar is unscrewed.
The elbow part does turn/rotate within the fitting.
I did look up several images and could not quite tie up a description with the images that indicated it could be undone and be self sealing.
The black pipe and fitting on end (with light green paint!) does swivel inside of the knurled nut/ring.
The elbow on the end of the hose is sealed to the bit with the hex on it by o rings which is why you can turn it. The bit with the hex on it is a bayonet fitting so self sealing when you push twist and remove the hose by the knurled bit. What makes it look odd is the fact there's no backplate elbow.
Please make sure that it seals properly, we've recently changed ours and it looked OK for a while but after an hour or so we smelled gas so the fitter came back to put a proper seal on it until the new one could be fitted
+1 to the above comment. Spray some soapy water 33/50 to 1 fairy in the hole and check for bubbles. If it's being left for a considerable time you need a 15mm compression cap, remove the nut and olive and ptfe it in. 15 - 20 wraps of standard tape. You'll need to remove everything but the 1st brass part before hand. Soap it up after to check for leaks.
You don't need to thread it all the way in. Just find the tight point but if you go too far you can't back it out as you wreck the seal and you'll need to start over.
If your not qualified you shouldn't touch it. My advice is if your going to do it anyway. At least you have some pointers.
It's a micropoint bayonet, technically self sealing and also a "customer" fitting so you are allowed to disconnect and reconnect if you take the cooker out for cleaning. They can leak when disconnected but I've never known one to leak when in use (muck gets behind the washer and the spring can't push it onto the seat properly)
It is a self sealing fitting.
Push in the elbow, turn the collar about 180 degrees and pull out the elbow. worth checking it's not passing gas with a bit of soapy water. Okay for a temp disconnection but if the cooker is to be permanently removed you should remove the valve and fit a 1/2" plug to be within regs.
