gas bottle burner

Hi, am still very much a newbie welder with limited welding/cutting tools. I was hoping to be abit more skilled by now as id like to make a burner as an xmas gift for a family member.

Ive mucked about with a couple gas bottles, but i need to make a burner with a glass door, the door is a must, but am not quite there yet.

Would anyone be willing to help me out with the door, give me an idea on cost and we can take it from there. Cheers

depends on your door size

but angle iron is perfectly usable
firerope and glue and your glass

all made from angle iron

Look for an old Parkray fire as they have glass doors which are in strips so you might be able to salvage the glass from one.

I have seen vdeos on you tube where Pyrex bowls have been used.
The set up looks complicated though and the bottle expands and contracts.

I have made log burners with part of a smaller bottle welded to the front of the main burner, and using round Pyrex plates/dishes for the door window,

The chipping hammers were on sale, I bought a few at £1-00 each, I usually just use a spring or make a coil from 3mm rod,

Pyrex dish *lids* make a good door glass.
I buy them from the car boot sale when I see them - especially square/rectangular ones.
I usually pay 20p - 50p for them.

Alternatively, if you have a local friendly scrapman you might be able to get hold of a glass from a scrap oven? Probably a bit big for a gas bottle stove tho.

You can't cut oven door glass, its hardened and just shatters. You can get high temp glass cut to any size by most glass suppliers, 5mm will do, its not expensive where I get it, about £7 for an 200 x 200 mm piece.
