I'm rubbish at it.
I was (in) famous at one place I worked for killing a plastic plant someone bought me for a joke. (Left it near the window/radiator, it went brown and melted/wilted).

So I thought I'd have a go again.

68mm square plastic downspout.



Heat ends and fold to seal ends:



Drill 2" holes @ 4.5" centres



Pipe insulation (22mm x13mm) cut into 1"(ish) discs, and inserted in holes.



Fasten to windowsill:


The idea is that you fill the tube about halfway with water+ (weak) liquid fertilizer.
The foam supports one seedling (which is held in place with a small offcut of foam initially.
Then ignore it except to top up with feed every month or so.
No soil.
No weeding.
Can be done inside/outside depending on what I want to grow.
And because it's "perfect" growing conditions, it's difficult to get wrong.

Watering can be automated with a small pond pump and a sump.
And growing season can be extended by using daylight LED lamps.

Apparently, something very similar is used to grow weeds? Dunno why anyone would want to do that...
Except dandelions and speedwell. i think they're very pretty. For weeds

I’ve just done some gardening, carefully laying some selected,pieces,of,spare turf to cover the dirt at the front of my newly relocated shed.

Couple of days sun and regular watering and it will be luxurious, like a bowling green.

(It’s only there to stop the dirt washing away from round the slabs, and it will all be gravelled as and when all the drama is over)

I once bought a pedestrian version of one of those for £40.
Sold it a week later for £450.
Wish id kept it, to be honest.

That is more my kinda gardening or fixing that would be more my kinda gardening. Do like hydroponics though as it fits with my obsession with scifi.

the trouble with gardening is that it grows faster than I can get round to maintaining it.

MrsG tells me she can remember the exact moment I got interested in gardening, had no interest before then.
The reason we moved 4 years ago was basically to get a bigger garden as I'd 'finished' the old one.
Before (just after removal of a very large willow. And after ... very nearly finished actually.







New garden is much bigger, there is an area bigger than our old garden behind the camera in this picture. Does also mean there is more room for sheds

Lots of chainsaw action and some stones which followed me home from the river

I found some random bulbs in the shed which will be perfect for this little area. Lots of work but should be fairly low maintenance which is what I like!
