Garage lights for paintwork

Morning chaps. I have 8 of the LED strip lights on the beams above me, each one is 48 watts. What I am finding is that downward projection of light is OK ish, but seeing the sides of a car is not great. Working in the wheel arches needs a torch, as I discovered when replacing my brakes yesterday.

What’s the best option for something to add to this so I can see better? Not keen on wall strips (paint booth style) as they’re always glaring in the eyes. I was kind of thinking about some higher level wall mounted LED flood lights, just not sure if this is a good idea?

not realy much use from above you could use a couple of led spotlights high up in the sides of the garage facing down and inwards on to the side of vehicle . use cool white ones for the best light

I'd suggest a worklight on a stand might be the best option - ones that sit on the floor always get tripped over (perhaps that's just me) and if they are mounted in a fixed position on the wall you can guarantee it will be casting a shadow in just slightly the wrong position every time. Maybe one of those old 110v site light stands and bin the halogens for some LED floods with a good CRI.

personally id build a floor stand for it to go on, just by bending another u shape you have a decent floor stand

it will be like blackpool fitting 50 watt .20 will be well bright enough in buildings up on the walls out of harms way

I always wear a head torch (Must have been from my time down the pit ) and have work lights too , LED (10 W) that I can position under the car.

Made a huge difference to the lighting in my garage when I painted my walls white.
I have/had six eight foot fluorescent tubes over head and four six foot double fittings that
push up out of the way but swiveled down so I had lights at the side.


I have replaced the tubes on one fitting, previously two 125W fluoro tubes, with two 48W
LED battens; it seems a little brighter under them.
