Garage insurance

Morning all, I've tried doing a search on various forums but have had no luck. Can anyone recomend a insurance company who will cover a domestic garage and or contents? Its not for business use but my home insurance with LV only covers up to £2500 which is no way near enough.
Most of the valuable machines are either bolted down or too heavy to run away with but I would like pease of mind.

Tried that already. Seems like most people keep worthless crap in their garages so its abnormal to require more cover unless for business use.

This is one of the ways the discount insurers manage to lower premiums - buy reducing cover that doesn't affect most people.
My suggestion is forget any cheap / comparion quotes as they will probably have similar restrictions. Go with a traditional firm who charge you for the policy you need and as such you won't be able to do that on line.
Peersonally I'm with NFU for my motor insurance and they are very flexible so say give them a try as I'm sure they will be used to farmers with expensive equipment in sheds etc being covered. Doubt they will be the cheapest though.

Try Walker Midgely, I've used them for a couple of years now and they cover buildings, tools, materials, part built projects etc. I think NFU also do proper workshop / outbuilding insurance.

Still no where near enough. I'm wanting about £30k cover for contents.

Im with co op and actually im not sure what cover i have tbh. I reckon my garage contents are worth about £20k+.

But the missus is a stay at home mum, and the garage is locked most of the time now, not just for security but to stop my 5 year old going in unattended.

And crime is pretty non existant over here as well.

rather than trying to get cover added on why don't you take out additional new cover for your garage through someone else for just contents

Thats my plan but so far no joy. NFU will only cover up to £5k. My wife rang them this eve.

Then go somewhere else, i'm sure you'll get someone to quote you, Failing that Prevention is better than Cure, Spend a bit of cash on a Decent alarm System and CCTV

Just found this on google

The only one that I have found that doesn't have a limit on it is Directline, who basically bundle the house and outbuildings together so you get cover up to value of your contents insurance.

Won't cover any car related stuff such as engines, wheels etc though, you would need a car related policy for that.

I havea decent alarm system which covers the house and garage. Its armed every night, and day when nobody is in. Its a propper brick built garage with the doors bolted from the inside so when locked you can only access from the kitchen door.
But...
I want piece of mind when on holiday that if some @rsehole clears me out I can get paid out for it.
What good is cctv if the person is wearing a hoody? And by the time the police would work out who dunnit my tackle would have been flogged on car boots, ebay ect.
Its taken me a very long time to collect my equipment, some of it belonged to my late father and it was also his pride and joy.
So knowing that I could replace it for new of the same quality would help me sleep better at night.

Local sawmill got broken into recently, they nicked a pile of gear - including the CCTV recorder...

They often do that to remove the evidence. That's why many now send the data off site as well.
