My mate has rigged up an oil burner (ie - the burner from a home furnace) to work as a garage heater.
He's mounted it on a trolley with wheels with a big bit of steel tubing that the flame burns into...and used a 2 litre lawnmower tank as the fuel tank.
It puts out amazing heat...so much that after 5 minutes on in his non insulated garage and we were in t shirts!!!
And it really doesn't seem to use much kerosene which I don't understand as he didn't modify the unit in anyway except wiring to a plug.
So I was thinking it would be great to make one for my garage, because nothing I have tried gives enough heat (its an ice box in colder weather)...
My dad gave me a metal jerry can that he cleverly modified with the pipe fitting inc shut off valve (perfect fuel tank)...a very good oil burner unit & a little gadget that shuts it off before the fuel runs too low.
So have brought it home all excited about knocking together a decent (cheap) heater at last...
But just wondering...FUMES!!!
My mate didn't seem bothered about his and risk of fumes saying he didn't notice any issue...but I want to stay healthy so am wondering about fumes???
I was told welding a stainless steel plate into the metal tube (not on the burner itself) absorbs any toxins but doesn't sound right to me?
Any ideas???
Be good to make it work safely as the heat is unreal...and its a mega cheap space heater for me!!!
