Garage cough

I seem to have become allergic to my garage. Years with no issue and now even a short time in the garage results in irritated throat / lungs. I’ve started boxing likely voc sources (of which there seem to be many). I’m wondering if my Land Rover or other source has started leaking, some mold has taken hold or if I’m allegeric to the oil that is in my new second hand pillar drill. Trying a process of elimination and wearing my mask but it’s really annoying. It’s a double garage and even with the door up I’m coughing. Trying to think what could have changed.

I am wearing a breathing mask for vocs and that helps a bit. Where should I look for mold ?

Computers. It’s definately the garage. Only happens when I’m in there and only recently. I’m sensitive anyway though I don’t like strong perfumes and that sort thing.

Is there a lot of ivy growing on the shed, or Celotex type insulation in it?

There was ivy on one wall, we killed it off recently. It feels like something I’ve introduced to the garage like a pool of brake fluid or similar. I’m gradually working through possibilities but in terms of what’s new the progress pillar drill and some Land Rover bits. I am sensitive to ash from fires but it doesn’t seem to be that.

If you already have allergy sensitivities, it could be something as simple as spending time in damp air, coupled with a bit of general garage dust.

It could be dust but it’s suddenly really bad so I think something I am sensitive to is now there. Once the landy is back together I’ll have a sort out and clean.

It seemed to start when I got a new keyless chuck. Are they usually covered in cleaner or preservation oil ?

What is the floor ? We had a plain tamped cement finish and the dust caused a dry irritable cough
Scrambling about on the floor working under a Landie causes dust to rise, sweeping it was really bad even with the door open

Have now painted it and it is a much nicer place to work

It is concrete I painted it years ago and got a garage vac.

Well worth it as you say sweeping throws up the dust. I’ve had a bit of a Hoover up as pulling of the wheel arch did throw a lot of dust up.

Glass wool insulation anywhere or old lime plaster? My loft is a no go zone without a mask.
