I want to make a moveable gantry crane, height is my biggest problem or rather lack of it, I'm going to mount for an electric winch on the side and have a pulley on the gantry to make the most of the height i have.
What I would like to know from anyone who can work out loading on steel is what is the shallowest section I can get away with for the cross beam, I will be using 2 side by side with pulley mounted on a slide between them.
I would like to have 1000kg at the center, length will be 9ft6", i can have removable triangulation supports coming in about 1ft either side from the main side supports.
Would 2x 3x2 work ?
