Anybody else going to the Game Fair at the Bath & West this weekend?

No, waiting for the BASC Gamekeepers fair, used to be at Shugborough but now at Catton Park - which is just down the road for me, not big but should see plenty of people I know.
Also generally go to the Midland at Weston Park - excellent day.
Do I recall a previous post where you indicated that you did a bit of 'keepering?
I go & help our keeper every Saturday, last couple of weeks we've dusted off my old buzz box to convert some surplus steel ladders into Deer seats, so there is a dubious welding connection!

Hi Sloderby, yes I do a bit of 'keepering part-time and am a member of the Gamekeepers Association of the BASC. Catton Park is too far for me to travel just for the day, but I have been threatening to come up and make a weekend of it one year.
NeilH I don't think this is a rerun from Feb, but I could be wrong (often am according to Mrs ES

Hoping there may be a few bargains at the Bath & West - I have been promising myself a cheap semi-auto for pigeons as I keep knocking my Beretta about on branches and hide poles (and could often use the additional cartridge
) Few other bits and pieces I need also so I'm hoping for a good day. Only downside is that the missus is having a day shopping in Bath - unsupervised

Hi Steve,if your at Bath and west ,i'm working this weekend unfortunatley.i would image these guys would have a stand........mendip shooting ground.......based underneath the Mendip transmiter,lots of second hand guns normally,and a great setup,if you ever get lost in the area.....Gav

I have the 452 Varmint 16" with moderator (we're not allowed to say silencer anymore) in .22LR. First class piece of kit as they have match chambers as standard making them super accurate straight out of the box. 5 rounds through a 1/2" circle at 50 yards is my normal range accuracy. IMHO the CZ is the best value .22 available for pest control.
I assume you know that you will need to have a part one firearms ticket in order to buy one.

hi english steve i already have an FAC i got a mossberg 9200 5 shot semi auto 12 bore. 
i put in for self loading shotgun and 22LR with moderator so just need to go buy a good one now i love the looks of the cz just never shot one. handled the silhouette 16" and it felt right!
also it will go well with my air rifle and shotgun air rifle is the BSA tactical XL .22 shotgun is the mossy

Nice BSA. My air rifle is a Weirauch HW85K break-barrel springer with Ox spring, moderator and range-finding 'scope. Brill for squirrels and quite good for rabbits, but used mainly for sniping pigeons around the farm buildings so as not to disturb the livestock.
Never used a Mossberg, what do you think of it? They seem good value for money.

i think the mossberg is fantastic! i was after a 930/935 BUT these come up few and far between and the 9200 appeared 
it is rated for 2 3/4 and 3" you can use 2 1/2" BUT you might get a jam with them. with 2 3/4 iv never had a problem with it. highly recommended 7.5 out of 10

Game Fair was a bit disappointing, only 1 well known gun dealer with a good selection of new/used and a couple of other small outfits with (ropey-looking) used stuff. Three halls full of camo clothing you could get from your local market and very little 'proper' shooting accessories.
All I bought was a pigeon magnet (bargain), and was gone in less than three hours. If I had paid full price to get in, I would have been very miffed
Nipped up to Bristol and spent the afternoon 'window shopping' in Fowlers

The only game fair i attend each year is Weston in the September to shoot both days. Fair itself, see enough after 1/2hr.
Not many trade did the fairs last year due to the outrageous tent prices, lets just say you dont get much for £2k, add on transport and employment costs, the turnover has to be vast to break even.
