Galvy dipping price

I picked up my shooting high seats from the Galvenisers today (Forfar galvenising) and near fainted at the price.

37 items smallest is 2ft of 25mm box biggest is a 10ft ladder. Anyway the combined weight was 250kg.

Complete price was £540. I near fainted as didn't expect it to be half that.

What's everyone's views ? To dear or average ?

Galv is charged by weight, so it would have been easy to get an accurate price before having anything done. If too much money, try somewhere else.

That's just the thing. They quoted me £300 when I dropped it all off. That was for a guessed weight of 500kg. Turned out to be 250kg but double the cost. Apparently when it's small items (apparently a 10ft ladder is small) they charge per dip and not just by weight.

Certainly won't be back to them. That's for sure

As an idea we pay £260 per tonne for hot dip (but send tonnes of stuff through them) and a minimum charge of £60. I know the 'man off the street' gets charged £550 per tonne at the place we use.

I wouldn't have paid it if it wasn't the price that was agreed at the outset?...

far to dear, I pay 70 cent a kilo [about 60 pence) and it makes no difference if its a hundred fiddly brackets or a heavy gate

My local place has a minimum charge of £80, as already said they charge by weight, I think it's about £350 a tonne

I had two 6x6 6ft boxsection gate posts done and 6 lengths of rebar that I'd made into coconut shys and all it it was £87 and that included them drilling a couple of extra holes. I can't even say that they mostly do small stuff as they have huge tanks and mostly do steel buildings.

I can understand a premium if they have to do extra work for multiple parts but they should have been 100% clear on that.

When I had mine done it was the first time I had anything galvanised and they came and checked everything on the trailer first, told me where they would hang from and need holes etc.

Way overpriced. I use Highland colour coaters at Cumbernauld. their min charge is £60 which is for anything under 100kg in weight after dipping. I had a 12' flat bed trailer frame dipped with them 2 years ago and it was approx 350kg and it came in at about £275 including the VAT.
