galvernising

hello folks just wondered if any of you people had much call for galvernising.
who did you use, is it expensive.
im in the middle of welding some dog runs for myself.
i could just buy them galvernised theres plenty about and they look ok but having the kit and a bit of knowledge i begrudge paying for them
any pointers appreciated.

Localy I can send stuff of to get done. They carged by the weight of the item you are sending so if its heavy you pay more. Not exactly fair as thin light stuff can take more galv than some thicker but heavier stuff but them I doubt its easy to charge by any other method. Check out HERE for the closest ones I could find. They tend to have collection & drop of points in most areas.

I think we pay about £500 per ton.

Look up Wedge Galvanisers.
If its thin and light, be prepared to do some straingtening after! And make sure its all vented properly, or they will charge you to drill them.

Think ours was about 50p per Kg or lb cant remember. £500 per metric ton is 50p so guess its that.

I have been doing home galvanising for about three years now. I use a small Draper sandblaster (around £40.00) and a 2 HP compressor and spray on the product called Zinga. It is available in aerosols for small jobs, or in a can for spraying through a gun. This galvanising will last as long as hot-dip galv but without having to drill degassing holes or having heat distortion. But you must sand-blast first. MIG wire is very hard and shiny and not many things stick to it!!

NOTHING is as good as proper hot dip galavanising. What you do may be good but no comparison to proper galvanising.

thanks for the replies folks, tcb i did come across the spray on stuff on the net, wouldnt have thought it would hold a candle to hot dipping but worth a second look if only for small jobs...thanks.
