Anyone reccomend a good galvanizer ideally near me I'm in chesham bucks I need to do a chassis it will be grit blasted inside and out

After having a conversation with a friend of mine in torn between galv or red oxide and good paint I will blast the chassis either way and I will wax the inside

Is that just a dip?
Or acid clean, dip and wash?

If you are blasting, then use epoxy - perfect prep for it.

Galvanising on a welded chassis risks distortion - heat of the process helps bring all the stresses out and it might take on an interesting shape.

Red oxide is not what it once was.
Best option is galvanising, epoxy or both.

Sounds very expensive to me. I had a ssangyong 4x 4 chassis done about 8 years ago £140 including collection and delivery

I must admit I was thinking more like 200ish I think I will have to ring them he did not seem to know what he asked for

Wessex galvanizing are very good at what they do, they understand the importance of hanging a chassis correctly to avoid distortion. Take a cordless drill with you because they do like to leg up the cost if they have to dill drain holes.

Premier Galvanizing collect from Watford , having said that the attic lorry won't come to my workshop can't fit down the road !

Weigh it , I think it's £1.20 per kilograms then add on a zinc surcharge ? You must ask for a price before hand , if they drill holes the charges mount !

Where did you get it done

BMT in great Yarmouth. They quoted around £200 but came in at £140. It weighed 16kg heavier after galvanising.

As a guide ,add 7% to the black weight of your fabrication,that will be the total weight that the galvanisers price. Is based on.

Any tips on where to drill holes it has a fair few already

Just make sure every closed section has a hole each end. I didn't need to drill any on my chassis. Every box and tube was open.

i had a landrover chassis galvanised a few years ago, it was in very good condition with no rust at all (military old new stock). i think i paid about £400 for acid dip to remove paint/ dinetrol and galv.

Be very aware of any rust at all, as the acid will take it all away. Even my chassis looked a bit pitted where the cross member mates up. and if ever you have seen a car that has been acid dipped it can be quite dramatic.

Just do it I cant think of a trailer that I own that's exactly the way I want it, tie downs in the wrong place, thin floors, rubbish/flimsy ramps and electrics. Certainly not as employee proof as a home built one.
