Sewerage plant tours are also very popular. I have my own septic tank if I feel the need.

I’ve a book somewhere that was my dads. An old thing from the 70s or 80s with black and white photos. It’s a register of factories that were happy for you to rock up and go on a tour, back in the day.

Would have been interesting. Vaguely remember going on a couple, then more with him through work.

All gone now really, bar a few.

I worked on an induction furnace in Muller Flow Products ,, converting the lid into a hydraulic operating system ... it was a huge aircraft hanger of a place , with a high roof , and massive low pressure sodium lights , the fumes and the dust made the whole place look like it was in a heavy dirty grey fog , and the light barely reached the floor ,,, it was like a scene out of Alien ,,, would I want to work there ,,, Never.
But spectacular to see once.

Does it happen to be SWG? (Vaguely remember you being SW based). If so totally agree there, I’m pretty sure everything is catapulted instead of using forklifts

They’re all just as bad.

BMT used to bend structural profiles.

Truck bodies I’ve made never had a chance really. Usually managed to heave them straight and repair any coating damage with cold galvanised.

To be honest unless it’s required by the customer I just use cold galvanised now.

Problem is, you can’t work out how it’s going to bend and then pre stress it, like you can with welding stainless for example

I cant find anyone over here to cold galv , they all seem to have a very very small size limit. what size stuff can you get done.

yep ,, same here but not quite up to a full bulkhead size ,,, I think a cadmium plated bulkhead may be worthy .

not sure exactly what it would be worthy of ,, but Id give one a go.

Ive had a few jobs , glasses is my current job to keep the tax man at bay .

I could start to list a few of them , but it seems to bring out the worst in ''@ hand pump '' so I wont
all I will say is that Ive turned a few corners lol .

By chance I spoke with someone local who made up stuff that needed dipping.

They hated our local plant so much that they would load all their stuff onto a truck and drive it half way across the country to a plant that they considered did a decent job.

I got a landrover bulkhead done by my local plant. First time it went there it came back hissing. They had not even left it in the zinc long enough to boil off the acid.

It went back to them, still hissing, and they did it again, and it was fine second time around. So it was possible to do, just not without a "conversation".
