Galvanisers near Stoke that will accept Land Rover parts?

I had all the brand new brackets off my Defender Hicap rear tub shot blasted and sent them up for Galvanising at nearest place - South West Galvanisers (Wedge) in Crediton, Devon.

They have now refused to galvanise then "as they are off a Land Rover" unless I pay £10 extra on every item dipped. There are a number of brackets and odds and ends so the surcharge is going to be near £500 before I even get them galvanised. Evidently this completely ridiculous new rule is because they recently dropped something on a bulkhead they had in for galvanising resulting in them having to buy a new bulkhead.

Can anyone recommend a galvanising firm near Stoke as I travel to Leek frequently who will a) accept these brackets and b) will not loose them?

All the brackets are all brand new, already shot blasted, are all 2mm plus thickness so are not going to present any problems when galvanising.

I gave up on South West Galvanizers along time ago, fed up with the poor service and 'pick a number' pricing!
It used to be a nightmare quoting the job total to a customer and trying to factor in the galvanising costs as they would forever load the price with some surcharge they had forgotten etc.
I made some railings for the front of a large Victorian detached house, the originals were removed during WW2, had them galvanised before painting etc, the next house down was so impressed that they wanted the same. Nice and easy for me I thought as it's just a mirror image of the job I'd just done so I quoted the same price.
SWG charged an extra 35% on the second lot of railings even though it was less than a month since the first job, when I queried it they said they had under estimated the first job so were clawing back the shortfall on the second job! Bang goes a large chunk of my profit from the job!
That was the last straw so I moved my custom to Cardiff Galvanizers, it was more inconvenient transport wise but the service was much better.

Hi, that's bad business practice, making customers pay for there clumsiness in dropping something and inconsistent pricing. they don't really deserve the business.

I dropped off my bulkhead to credit on earlier today. I knew the price was higher than the weight price. I made it clear that I knew the price (£150) but still wanted to k ow why it was more than the weight price.

Same story as above, BUT, they also claim not to gaurentee anything. Ie you pay them "danger money" but get nothing for it.

I also asked about small parts, and they want to charge £10 per item as theyre landrover also.

As some of the bits are riveted together, they say the rivets need removing, and then theyre two units, so double the cost!

And again, the disclaimer... (not that I signed one today)

I'm only just down the road from the plant there, but did not feel comfortable with the people in the office at all.

Thin panels arn't really ideal for hot dip galvanising. Probably have a fair few complaints about warped panels.
Brackets and things, if there are two faces riveted together, there's a good possibility that the galv will swell the joint, damaging the part.


Indecently, 98% of our galving goes to Cardiff these days. Collection and drop off, often on a 48hr turnaround.

For large parts, we use I.A.E. they do chassis etc...
For small bits we take them to Joseph Ash in Telford.

Do not use Stoke Galvanising Ltd. They are fine for things like farm gates but don't handle items very carefully and finish can be "hit & miss".

Corbetts the galvanisers are very well reported on in Telford, not too far from Stoke at all. As to whether they accept land rover parts / decent pricing I don't know.

A lot of stoke galv work used to get shipped by them over to Joseph Ash.
Dunno if it still does.
Everywhere we have tried at work give hit and miss finishes. Some look lovely, others will take your fingers off.
If it's too bad we moan and they strip and redo them but obviously we are sending a fair bit in. For odd bits from public they might say tough.

just a note there is a galvanisers place at bradford on canal rd they do small to big things there often but i have no experience if they would do small stuff for a consumer

I was over at http://www.dandnshotblasting.co.uk/ this afternoon and the chap there was showing me some Series 1 parts that they'd blasted and galvanised for someone. They also do zinc spraying too. They seem to do quite a bit of work for people doing restorations, as they had some Ferrari bits in as well.

Not that far from Stoke, on the A50 just past Smallwood lights. The chap to ask for is Frank.
