How long would it take to rust bearing in mind that this is inside and was supposedly have droplets of water dripping onto it?

I've been up the wall today with a gas check nerd saying he has to switch the boiler off because of water from the flu going outside is dripping onto the boiler top surface,leaving me without hot water till tomorrow,although thats not for definate ie could be two days?until an boiler engineer comes out.

I just took a look at this so called rust? and rubbed a bit of it away with my finger,no apparent markings underneath like a grey spot mark that rust leaves behind.

Gonna kick up a right stink with this if its not rust. arrrrrggh!

My last visit from the gas engineer was also fun, he stated the vertical flu was 4.5ft long and should be according to the regulations supported every 3ft, he said he would have to switch off the boiler and give me a notice to repair.

He then had a 'feel' of it and said.. oh it feels good and solid, wait until I drive away and can't see and then what you do is up to you.

clean it off if you can, if its been leaking chances are it will be residue and dust left from the water leaking water

I think you can be fairly confident that it won't rust through in two days....

gas eingineers/inspectors from the big supply companies havent a f##king clue they apply the rule book without understanding it

however condensate should not be dripping on top of the boiler

Probably about 15 years ago my mother had a fire fitted by British gas, a few years later she had a gas safety check (free to pensioners) apparently the size of hole in plate behind fire had changed so they cut off the gas!.

So now we have a pensioner with no heating in the middle of a cold February I went round ripped off all the red notices and reconnected the fire, if I could have seen the "engineer" I would have cut him off!
