Another for lexus v8

Does it have to be a v8 or is 300-400hp more important

Hey, I don't know what engine would fit without grief, but in terms of selecting a V8 for my project, I saw it like this:

Rover V8 - viable but dated. I would only use this if I wanted something quick (i.e. no ECU)
Jag and BMW V8 - I don't know how good they are but there doesn't seem to be much support out there for them. You'll be on your own trying to get them wired up.
American V8 - Availability? Costly in the UK?

So by process of elimination that leaves one engine:

Toyota UZ (aka "The Lexus V8"). Tons of support out there for it, light weight, compact, simple, cheap as chips. I got mine for £200 with gearbox and ECU and low mileage and guarantee. They were originally designed as race engines. Front, mid and rear sumps available. The ECU is easy to wire up. Only grief is mating it to a gearbox, the kits are expensive, but there are CAD adaptors online, and you can get it made abroad for very cheap. I decided to keep to the stock auto box as mines an off roader so auto works well.

A Lexus v8 would eat that poor little gearbox alive!

Thank you all for the replys , I read most of the posts earlier on and have have time to think a little and digest .

This will be my first car project and for relative simplicity I'm going with a rover 3.5 SDI engine and the LT77 box (it's the V config burble over BHP , and will be big enough to get you into a boat load of trouble ... Fast , with a light shell so will do me .

After a quick look round I see LT77 boxes are thin on the ground , unless I own a LR tdi

And a last question .... Comp sim mentioned about the shell possibly need strengthening and this lead me thinking .... How much more strengthening would a roadster shell need (I can't see too much as it will have to be strengthened anyway)
