This has intrigued me for years and I thought I'd ask on here knowing that if no one on here has heard or seen such a thing then no one has.
When I did my apprenticeship back in the early 70's the company I worked for had some interesting kit. One piece of equipment was known as the "fusion" saw.
This was a very substantial band saw approximately 7 feet high. The wheels were massive heavy flywheels and the cutting bed was inch+ thick plate. That's where the similarity with a band saw pretty much ended.
The motor was very substantial and took some time to wind it up to speed. The speed was bloody fast and cutting even thick plate was easy and accompanied by a shower of sparks. There was no swarf to speak of.
If the blade broke it would instantly turn into a small cube of metal on the bed, all of it
. No flaying end or warning, just running then a cube instantly.
Any one seen anything like this or heard of one?
