I took some pictures of the milling machine that has the noisy quill bearings. Any suggestions most welcome. He did turn round today and say he’d just buy another one. Until I pointed out that he’d built a wall and workbench right where he originally brought it in!

Cone pulley system is prone to getting noisy.
Half a day and a few bearings and maybe a belt!

Yes. Being a far-East Bridgeport copy, it will surely have metric bearings, which are a lot easier to source than imperial ones.

Strangely, found completely the opposite - more stock of imperial sized bearings available from the big names.

We had a load of that exact mill where i worked, and all were noisy. Maybe its just the machine. I put new bearings etc in the Bridgeport head i put on the Tom Senior and thats noisy, but i reckon a new belt might help there. The poly bushes in the pulley sheaves can wear and that can lead to noise too. They are not difficult to dismantel and put back together. Changing the spindle bearings is literally a one hour job.

I’ve not seen their one, what do they look like? I need to make one and have a great arbor that could be repurposed.

The company I worked for had a cnc version of that mill and it liked to eat the drive belt leading to a grumbling vibrating noise.
That mill and yours looks almost identical was made by King Rich somewhere in the far East and badged as an XYZ , that may help with finding info online. I think the problem was the belt would ride over the edge of the pulleys at the extremes of the speed range and bits of chewed up rubber would fall down into the back gear. You will need to make a compressor to squash the spring at the bottom of the motor shaft under the pulley , couple of bits of 1\4 UNC studding ( the screws holding the mill together are UNC with metric heads ) and a plate ( can't remember exactly ) to remove the retainer off the end of the shaft so you can lift the motor off and then remove the cover to change the belt.
