After browsing the internet for support clamps, I saw some stuff and thought 'I can do better than that'. See thread 'Where can I get some of this'.

I sourced some microphone support stuff + bases and the end fittings, and some cheapo mini mole grips. I fitted these on to an M6 bolt welded onto the end fixing, then used a pair of M6 nuts to hold and adjust the mole grip onto the M6 spindle. Using a fixed nut and a loose nut means they can be adjusted for rotation as well. There is a degree of rotation built in but I seem to be able to set and lock them in position as needed.

I was most impressed by the weight they can carry, and they can be stacked end to end if I ever need this.
Cost about £10.00 each.
Dinky doos. I have some small strong magnets on the way to make the stands.
