Fuel Sender boss/ Screw

Evening Gents.

I'm currently making an Alloy tank for someone. The original Steel tank has a twist lock type fixing for the fuel sender.

Now the customer has already said he will cut out the steel section from the tank and bolt it to the new alloy one, providing i supply enough material to allow him to drill and tap.

Just thought it would be nice to try and do it from alloy if it isnt going to be a pain.

Its roughly 3mm deep. you have the lower lock with 2 offset tabs, and the upper lock with 3 tabs at equal intervals.

I do not have the fuel sender.

Why beat yourself up there are hundreds of screw fixing ones, weld a good thick doubler in then drill & tap will be cheaper for him & a lot less agro for you.

The kit-car and/or motorsport industries are likely to be your friend here. Places like Europa Spares, Merlin Motorsport, NFAuto or Stafford Vehicle Components may carry the parts to use the existing sender (though I doubt that type of fixing is going to adapt well to ally so wouldn't hold your breath).

Alternatively as 500e suggests, ditch the original sender and get a "universal" replacement with either an alternative fixing method or where the manufacturer can supply the correct fixing parts. It's not exactly rocket science to measure the resistance of the original through it's range and get a suitable replacement so that it'll work with the original gauge and wiring - even if an exact match can't be found a couple of resistors can be used to get something close to a near exact match. I've just done a similar exercise getting a Mini (Smiths) sender to drive a Jaguar (Veglia) gauge.
