Always has been expensive here go 4 miles down the road either way and it drops 2-4p

It was many years ago, but with a lot of work done by the local govt we are now more transparent with our tax arrangements etc and we are higher on the tax transparency list than the UK.

Unfortunately, the 'tax haven' tag never seems to go away !!

Might have been a bit later?, first prices I remember was about 40p a gallon in 1976

I was expecting the same, but it didn't do as badly on fuel as I expected. I clocked every petrol station I passed when I got off the motorway, and found one near where I was going at 134.9, so chucked a bit in at that one. I was actually surprised at how far the fuel went though. I had over half a tank left when I got down there, approx. 160 miles, but chucked another £25 worth in down there rather than running the risk of getting low on the way back. Still had over half a tank left when I got back here.

Merseyside.....Diesel around 1.36.....went through Derby the other day it was £1.32...jumped on M1 to Leicester and it was 1.49 in the services!! When we lived in Spain it was the same price in euros as it was pounds in the UK.

Unfortunately, I can remember filling the tank on my Dagenham coffin (2 litre V4 Mark 4 zephyr) when I was 19 ...cost me just over £3 for 15 gallons...mind you that was a third of my weeks wages!!
