Fuel prices

LPG used to be flared off at refineries. This was stopped some time ago, by legislation IIRC. Maybe at the same time duty was kept low on it as a road fuel to encourage people to convert to LPG, although it didn't really catch on.

If there is a surplus I'm sure they could use to generate electricty.

If there is a surplus I'll take all they have to fuel my heating, 47kg cylinders are costing me £62 each !! In the worst of the winter they only last a week !!

This is just a guess, but if demand for diesel is high compared to the other fractions coming out the crude, they'll use hydrocracking to convert the other stuff to diesel. This presumably would add to the average cost of diesel?

What I'd like to know is if LPG really is still a waste product? 10 years ago there were figures like LPG demand is only 10% of production. I was also told of a chap that used to buy it wholesale from the refinery for 0.3p/litre, as they just wanted rid of it.

In recent years I've noticed it reliably priced at just above half the price of petrol, so it's either following real crude/production costs, or a set price-plan.

i've been running on lpg since 2001 its always been just over half the cost of petrol,if it gets more popular i bet it will increase.

The duty on LPG has certainly gone up a fair bit recently. It seems the guaranteed 1p/yr tax rise didn't last forever, I watched the price of LPG go up 50% in a year

It wouldn't be so bad if I wasn't struggling to get over 20mpg on gas...

Correct it does.

BUT the average UK income is £30,894 for a Male and £24,119 for Female in 2012.



I bet the average income for around where I live is more like 12k. So if the figures are based on UK Average, then the person on £12k is still paying £3084 per yr equal to 25%

If I had another 5 grand I still wouldn't be on the average income

I recall my dad saying that if petrol ever got to £2 a gallon he would give up driving. He never did, of course, but I can imagine his blood pressure at £7 a gallon
