I wonder where the windscreen is on my motorbike that said sticker is supposed to be displayed and how theft or loss of said sticker on motorbikes that do have a screen will be prevented.

Been all over France, it's a lovely country but I've never had the slightest desire to visit Paris, the biggest city I've driven though is Rouen and that was bad enough. If you get out into the countryside it is absolutely stunning.
Why the linked article doesn't show a picture of the stickers that you need to display I don't know.
Here's what they look like....
All my vehicles will be a '5' so I guess I won't be welcome

We went through Rouen on the way to LeMans in 2014, holy crap what a dump!
Looks like the worst parts of Hounslow on a very bad day!
Then last year we took the more scenic route though the forest near Alencon and it was spectacular.
Found an old American WW2 tank in the middle of the forest, it was perfectly quiet until some loon in a Merc 4x4 came hooning round the corner on opposite lock!

On the Crit’Air website there is a simulator and my 1991 reg car got a 1 sticker so I think you may have it the wrong way round. try it!.

As far as I've ever been on this globe is Australia twice. I don't think I would ever go to any other country to sight see probably only to be on a work visa once I'm qualified and see the world that way as that's how most people in trades seem to like to get there experience and be able to get higher paying jobs here, once there back. Most of my tutors did it that way and have a massive lot of knowledge behind them from that.
People from France and people here often ask each other "this place is beautiful, you must love it here" and its interesting how both reply back "well no actually, there's too many people and too many tourist visiting."
Here, in the 90's or something, there was this "car free Friday" where to save the air and pollution and because petrol and fuel were low or something you weren't aloud to drive you car on Fridays... unless you had a sticker on your car.. so most people just had two cars, one with the sticker on that they drove on Fridays and one that they drove every other day.... didn't really solve the problem.

Yup, I was on route to LeMans when I went through Rouen as well, like you say what a dump, but get out into the countryside and it's a lovely country.
Like the odd/even number plate idea where on one day it was only the odd's that were allowed to drive and the next day only the even's. It only affected the poor since everybody else just had two cars.
So the French are not multi-cultural then. the problem was that when I used google translate some of the simulation would not work, I managed it at the end.
The part I could not really confirm from the RAC or French site is I believe that no matter where in France you are driving, it seems as though you have to have a sticker, like the breathalyser rules you must always have one, they may stop you going into certain city's but you must have one on the vehicle to determine yes or no.
So popping across on the ferry to head up to Denmark and the Netherlands etc you still need one. That is how I see it and could be wrong.

The directives are made under art 288 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union and based upon powers grated to the union by member states agreeing to it i.e. the UK has given the EU the power to fine us for our failure to meet air pollution requirements.
Please no politics on the wonder / evil (delete as you see appropriate) of the EU - after all the UK has failed to act to reduce pollution despite its commitments and has also failed to take action against manufacturers who lied and cheated on emissions tests that will impact upon the health of UK citizens, so a bit of a prod was called for anyway!
OK clarified for me on another forum by a Frenchman, (they're not all bad ).

But it is the UK chosen to take no enforcement action against VW? The EU are actually annoyed at the situation and want to see VW punished but have no powers to do so themselves.
No, if the UK leaves, by repealing the European Communities Act 1972, EU law would cease to apply in the UK. However, repealing the ECA, or triggering article 50 will do nothing to improve the air quality!
Whatever the views people may have of the EU, it was the UK that chose to promote diesel engines significantly, a policy that is now admitted has and is continuing to prematurely kill a lot of people. It was also the UKs choice to sign up to emissions targets along with penalties for failing to comply and then did not take sufficient action to comply.
Vehicle emissions are impacting upon peoples health and some countries such as France are now taking increased action to try and reduce pollution, the UK needs to follow this example and bring down pollution levels, how we achieve it is down to us.

I had entered Gaz assuming it was gasoline and it is not it is Essence for gasoline (petrol) and it states when I do it that way that,
Your vehicle does not meet the criteria for an air quality certificate. So my kit is less than poo!
Just another nail.
