Freight haul company?

Hi,

Me and another member are looking at getting 10t of scaffold boards from Lincolnshire. We need to get 5t delivered to south Yorkshire and then the other half delivered to Aberdeen. Anyone know a reasonably priced courier company that could do the load for us?

There isn't frequent access to the boards so it's a one off pick up and I was only looking for someone to help with my delivery in exchange for a load of boards.

by my reckoning that's about 500 13ft boards. If they're in usable condition they're worth a tenner each or £5k all in so even booking eddie stobart himself to collect them means you're quids in!You could sell a few on ebay if you don't need 250 each to pay for the haulage.
who gives away 5 grands worth of scaffold boards anyway? They could sell them at a fiver each and they'd be gone pretty quickly!

It's 400 13ft boards. Been told they're about 25kg due to being wet. Getting more is an option to pay for some of the shipping cost. Cheapest quote at the moment is £1100, thought it would be a lot cheaper.

wow! So did I, but I've never needed 10t shifting from Lincolnshire to Aberdeen before! I've seen people put adds on gumtree etc for this kind of thing. Good luck.

It's the length that most will have the issue with rather than the weight. I's not a convenient pallet size. Are they on pallets or is it hand ball loading?

Thought you'd got a company quoting you £250, for the lot to Aberdeen, must have misread your message.

Anyway, it wont be a day trip.

Allow 4 hours for loading and strapping, so you're paying waiting time there, plus however long it took for the driver to get there.

We did a 45ft Artic to Prestatyn around 3 years ago, return trip over 10 days, so double mileage, based on a rough guess of a 350 mile round trip, twice, cost £900 + vat.

Aberdeen via Sheffield from Theddlethorpe, based on a guesstimate of 470 miles, one way, so he will be empty on return, £1100 ain't bad!

Best bet is its a two day delivery, as you've got to allow an hours unload in Sheffield, an hour every four for rest breaks, and at 55mph on motorways, 40mph on singles and 30mph through residential. It'll be an hour and a half to Sheffield at least.

So even if the wagon driver started at 7am, it'll be 12 noon before Sheffield is in his sights.. Leaving 6 hours for a 400 mile trip without a break, which is illegal.

fuel costs was just what it would cost for the trip not for you to pay
you would be better off using one hauler for Sheffield and another for Aberdeen

no offence but sometimes it maybe best just to go straight into wood yard and pay that than do all the faffing around

its ok close but at distance the costs soon spiral and is worth just buying at local places

Isn't there a site called shiply or something like that where you put up the load from where and to where and various people will give you a quote?

Here's a crazy idea. Hire an artic local to the load and go get ALL there is to buy. work out a deal to sell them locally and use the money to buy boards closer to the destination.

I think this is an unfortunate case of all that glitters is not gold ie a load of free planks, great. Cost of moving prohibitive, you need an owner driver that needs a return load and wants to reduce his fuel bill back to his base
