If it's so fragile how will it be moved without it dropping to bits? I bet it would last a good bit longer if it was left as is!

I don't believe for one second that the RAF can't afford to bodge it together enough to keep it standing. What that really means is that those on the purse strings don't give a hoot about some national heritage.

Even so, I'd be happy to chip in a few quid to help save it if they set up a fundraiser.

I’m sure the RAF have trainee technicians or similar who would love a go at riveting some extra spars or struts into that thing.

But of course, Health and Safety would probably not allow it, in case one of the got a scratch, or tore their overalls......

Based on my experience of ex-RAF technicians a lot of the experienced guys could do with the extra practice too...

Standard practice when you don't want to take responsibility for a decision, get a consultant in and put any consequences under their liability and off your insurance - happens all over the public sector. Funny that the consultants are always the same few government "advisors" too...

I'll put a fiver in for Big Vic if asked.

A bit but also not...a bit ex-raf technicians coming into where I work. I've had the misfortune to have a couple of absolute numpties on my team in the past.

With ex-RAF guys it seems to go two ways, absolutely spot on or absolute mince.

It'll end up at the RAF museum down the road from me for sure...funded by the national lottery.

Its a free museum...but they charge for parking. I had someone explaining to me that parking 200 yards up the street would save the 5 of us £2 in total...people are pretty terrible!

Yes you can sit in the spitfire...and yes of course I did even thought i had to wait 3 hours to do it....fantastic place if you are ever near west london.
