Found a neat website for cross referencing auto part numbers

I thought this could be super useful, you enter a part number and it tells you other manufacturers part numbers that are the same. I guess this works on the principle that manufacturers share the same suppliers:

Eg if there's no cam shaft sensor available for your old car you can find other cars that have the same sensor.

Why I no longer use 2 local national companies now.

The "Thing" behind the counter could not get it's head round Q Plates or a kit car in build.

autodoc often lists all the alternate brand part numbers , i then bash the numbers into ebay /amazon and pick the brand i like best

They gave up with me on a similar request. In the end, they pointed me in the general direction of similar components and let me wander round the stores until I found what I needed.

It's been like that a long time, back in the early 80's I went into local Leyland spares place for an SU carb needle when I was playing with A series engines

Me: I'd like an SU xxx needle please
Assistant: what car is it for?
Me: A Mini xxx, but I want this particular needle
Assistant: Oh no sir you need a yyy needle for that model
Me: Bye

Things got much easier when I found the SU factory in Birmingham
